About Rachel
I am a wife and a mother of three wonderful little boys, who are my favorite and least cooperative models. I started learning about photography in high school, then again in college, and even more since going digital in 2004. I started this business, because I love photography and can’t think of any better way to spend my spare time. I want to create images of you and your family that will make you exclaim “Yes, that is us exactly!” and make you smile each time you see them.

On-location photography allows you to choose an environment that is comfortable to you, whether that is in your home or yard, or a local park. If you don’t have a location in mind, I can suggest a few places based on the personality you would like to express in your pictures.
I shoot both candid and informally posed shots, so you can expect direction ranging from “go over there and play” to “stand here and look there.” I allow plenty of time to get just the right shots, so you can take breaks to change clothes or have a snack. Typically, sessions vary from a half hour to 2 hours. If shooting in your home, I may ask to rearrange things to create the best photo. I shoot with available light whenever possible, but I will likely have some photography lights on hand too.
After your session
Within two weeks of your session, your photos will be available to view online. Though I may take 100 shots or more, I’ll narrow it down to just the best 10-20 to show you. Trust me, more choices are not a good thing. Your proofs will include a combination of natural color and black and white images.
Clothing advice
First, I’m not a big fan of matchy-matchy. Most families don’t dress like that in real life, and I think your photos should capture the real you! Does your three year old, like mine did, have a favorite shirt, dress, or shoes? Let her wear it!
In general, big prints work better than small prints, and bright colors look great. For families, consider choosing a coordinating palette like navy, burgundy, and dark green, or brown, pink, and blue. I’d be happy to talk to you more about your choices or pick out an outfit before your session. In fact, why choose just one?
High school seniors especially can take advantage of unlimited clothing changes and long sessions to express who they are with multiple outfits. Maybe they will even wear that tie that Mom thinks looks so nice…
